Specs3 - Networked speed cameras - Friday 10 October 2008

The manufacturer of the Specs average speed cameras, the type seen on motorway roadworks, has developed a new version that can track vehicles for miles
The system has been designed to monitor speed over long distances in urban areas and multi-lane carriageways. It can track a vehicle even if it turns off of the road or slows down briefly. The cameras can be positioned within the network, which is linked to a penalty processing centre, up to 15 miles apart. The Home Office is expected to approve the technology early next year and the first network will probably be installed on a long stretch of A-Road.
