2007 Road casualty statistics - Sunday 29 June 2008


The Department for Transport has released statistics on road casualties in accidents reported to the police for 2007

Notable results, compared to 2006, include:

  • Fatal accidents fell by 7%
  • 4% less road casualties
  • Traffic levels up by 1%
  • Casualty rate per 100 million kilometres 5% lower
  • 5% less pedestrian deaths
  • Seriously injured cyclists up by 6%
  • Motorcycle casualties up by 1%
  • Car casualties fell by 6%

Compared to the 1994-98 average, people killed or seriously injured fell by 36% and the slight casualty rate fell by 30%.
