Eco-towns to be car un-friendly - Saturday 21 June 2008
Plans for new Eco-towns to be built by 2016 will be a no-go zone for cars
Part of Gordon Brown's plan for green communities, the new developments will have a parking space for cars on the outskirts of the town with residents being expected to walk or cycle to and from their futuristic home. The houses will not have a garage but instead a cycle rack. Other features of the proposals include solar and wind power on site, underground recycling centres which will be fed by chutes from each home and civic amenities such as a GP surgery and shops all within easy walking or cycling distance. | | |
