Driver Testing Proposals - Wednesday 4 June 2008

Ruth Kelly has announced proposals for changes to the way new drivers are trained and tested

The consultation is to instil better understanding of driving skills at the learning level. Such things as driving at night and in poor weather conditions. The proposals include a foundation course for under 17's in Scottish schools from this autumn, vocational qualification for van drivers, motorway driving and advanced training. The driving test may change, shifting the focus from performing manoeuvres to allowing candidates to demonstrate their full range of skill and understanding. Post-test courses will also be offered for a culture of life-long learning
