<p>Statistics suggest that 10% of all bridge strikes involve foreign lorry drivers and the DfT thinks it may be due to the imperial measurements used on low bridge signage, where as abroad there is more widespread use of metric units. Bridge strikes not only cause delays on the road but if the bridge is carrying a railway, services have to be stopped by Network Rail.</p>
