Can someone slam Brake. They're the ones taking transport policy back to the dark ages - they want speeds reduced to Edwardian era - man with a red flag in front your car. Fact speed cameras are there for a revenue raising - vendor sales blurb say so and council and cops can keep money from fines - safe easy way of making money - minimum effort maximum output, clobber the motorist with imitation safety policies.

In the majority of cases so called 'speeders' are guilty of nothing more or less than exceeding a purely arbitrarily set speed limit. The majority of the limits bear no relationship to any risk or danger. I fail to see how any 'conviction' for speeding, on its own, can justify an increase in insurance premium. Many years ago, when I first started to ride bikes, there was no national limit. We bought our bikes, we modified them and tuned them and three figure speeds were common, I was once waved past by a police driver who, himself, was already travelling at 100mph. Then the law changed and the 70mph limit appeared applicable even on motorways which had been designed for sustained 120mph cruising. Overnight speeds of well into three figures, which the day before were normal, frequently achieved and LEGAL suddenly became 'reckless', 'dangerous' 'suicidal' etc. No one will ever convince me that the introduction of the current artificially low, arbitrarily decided NSL is anything other than just another devious way of raising money for an overstretched government.

I wish I could find the company - I have an 11 year old daughter who is car crazy I live dow private road and she can drive down on occassion but I would like to find a private road network or track that she could drive on to gain more experience, her ambition is to become a racing driver. If anyone knows where we can go it would be great. By the way Suzi i think it is frustration of not being able to access what you really want to do can tempt some into the joy riding category given the right training and availablity at a reasonable cost youngsters learn the potential dangers and in most cases will respect others property and the lives of the public.

I am a keen cyclist and ride to work most days of the week. This sounds like a very bad idea just to impose a blanket law which will be open to abuse.
I regular see other cyclist with no lights, dark clothes, wrong way up a one way street etc, and would be very angry if on a day that I did use my car, someone like this rode up into my car then started to try and claim a payout of my insurance.

I appreciate that many car drivers are at fault and I am cut up on a regular basis by bad drivers, but more than likely this lot have no insurance and would not stop after knocking me over. Especially with a law making them automatically liable.

Please can we have more traffic police at peek traffic times, but instead of focusing on speed and fines can they focus on bad driving like tail gating, blocking junctions/roundabouts, general aggressive behaviour.
