30% of drivers text at the wheel

A survey of 841 drivers by road safety charity Brake reveals that 3 out of 10 drivers admit to texting whilst driving

9% of the respondents admitted that they even surfed the web whilst at the wheel. A 2009 American study revealed that drivers are 23 times more likely to cause a crash if driving whilst distracted by texting. An Ofcom report has also warned about phone addiction with some users not being able to go without checking their phone for short periods of time.
