New Police non-emergency number – 101

A new number is being rolled out across England and Wales for non-emergency contact with the Police

Currently live in Parts of Wales and the South East, the 101 service which is available 24 hours a day 7 days a week is designed for scenarios such as reporting a stolen car or road accident, damage to your property or to report a crime in your area, or to report drug use in your neighbourhood. It is hoped it will ease the pressure on the existing 999 emergency service and provide greater access to Police. More information and a roll-out plan is available on http://www.police.uk/101

One Response to “New Police non-emergency number – 101”

Surely all people want to do is dial one common number and get through to the Police. When I had reason to call the Police a couple of years ago I was told off for using 999 for a non-emergency call. I was told ‘Contact your PCSO’, what?, who?, how?. As far as I was concerned, with a threatening gang of feral teenagers on my property it WAS an emergency. When I finally made contact with the PCSO, who turned up about half an hour later (hoping they had gone?) he was as useful as a glass door on a dunny. The teenagers mocked him, made fun of him, knew their rights better than he did and there was nothing he could do about it. I will not waste my time calling the Police again.
