Driver fined for warning other motorists

A Lincolnshire man has been prosecuted for warning other motorists about a speed trap

The man was found guilty at Grimsby Magistrates’ Court of wilfully obstructing an officer and fined over £400. The authorities have defended their decision in charging the man, saying that there was a realistic prospect of conviction and the prosecution was in the public interest. The driver was simply trying to warn drivers of an oncoming road hazard so they avoid sharp braking.

If warning other motorists of a ‘cash collection hazard’ ahead is illegal then are not the proliferation of ‘Speed Camera’ ahead signs also illegal? To my mind both perform the same function. Drawing a different parallel, are the police and CPS saying that if I stop a person from assaulting someone I am perverting the course of justice? How in the name of anyone’s Gods is this in the ‘Public Interest’.
