Oxfordshire cameras could be switched on again

Oxfordshire County Council have conducted tests at sites that have had their cameras switched off

The results have shown that the number of drivers now speeding past the redundant speed cameras has risen by almost 88%. Thames Valley Police and the County Council are “in talks” to get a new agreement for the cameras to be reinstated. The cameras were turned off on the 1st August after spending cuts announced by the new Coalition Government.

One Response to “Oxfordshire cameras could be switched on again”

  1. Ken Lines says:

Surely the relevant factor should be accident rates not speed. With the NSL and other posted limits, on open roads, set at a tax gathering level rather than anything to do with ‘saaafety’ it should be obvious that most people who are driving according to conditions will ‘speed’. Have they stated whether the so called accident rate has risen significantly. If their judgements are based purely on speed then they are only interested in gathering more tax.

(Are there really accidents, or are they a culmination of errors by one or more persons)
