Heavier fines for delayed road works

The Transport Minister has released plans to charge utility companies that do not finish their road works on time up to £25,000

The existing maximum a utility company can be fined is £2,500 per day. In addition to increased fines, guidelines for councils and utility companies as well as lane rental schemes for the busiest routes are proposed to try and bring down the length of disruption to road users. Road works cost the economy £4.2 billion every year.
