Cruise Control stuck at 50mph

An Australian motorist endured 30 minutes in his Ford Explorer with the cruise control stuck at 50mph

The driver, Chase Weir, had tried calling Ford whilst stuck in the speeding car to get advice, but hung-up after waiting and called the Police instead, who calmed Chase down whilst he swerved oncoming traffic after being forced onto the other side of the road. The Police told Mr Weir to apply the handbrake at the same time as the foot brake and eventually the vehicle came to a stop, inches off another car. Ford has asked to inspect the vehicle to determine the cause of the problem.

Hm, I would just have turned the hazard lights on, turned off the ignition and stopped. The steering might have become more than a bit heavy but the car would still have been steerable and, with a bit of care, there should have been some braking effort left if the car had power assisted brakes.
