Provisional licence/new driver, how many points allowed?

There are special rules that apply to drivers and motorcyclists who have just passed their test with regards to penalty points

If you obtain 6 or more penalty points from the date of passing your driving test you automatically face having your licence revoked and will be required to apply for a provisional licence again and only be allowed to drive on the road as a learner driver. These rules also apply to drivers from foreign countries, especially where the foreign driver exchanges to a UK licence but then passes the test to drive a different classification of vehicle, such as an HGV.

My son has been issued with 6 points and a fine (which I have to pay as he is only 17) about 8 weeks ago for driving a car without insurance and failing to stop and on a provisional licence. He brought a motorbike 2 weeks ago and has just been issued with 3 more points for doing 35 in a 30mph zone. What is likely to happen to him as he has just got a job where he needs his bike to get him to and from work?
